Safety Specialist


Location: Montreal, Quebec

Responsibilities


  • Assist with the administration and maintenance of the  Company Safety Management System (FS/OHS/SMS)
  • A SME for the SMS Pro system, assisting with the development, maintenance and ongoing implementation of the effective Company SMS
  • Aid in the development and implementation of policies and procedures which will ensure full adherence to the applicable airworthiness regulations
  • Train personnel in the use of company SMS software and procedures.
  • Investigator for all Safety Incidents (Flight Safety / OHS / General / QMS)
  • Conduct verifications of the effectiveness of implemented Corrective Action Plans
  • Investigate hazard reports and conduct root cause analysis when required
  • Participate in and/or conduct regular follow-up on various SMS action items (SMS review meetings)
  • Provide support and assist team members on identifying, documenting and completing SMS related actions
  • Monitor departmental KPIs through the analysis of system data or measurement (auditing)
  • Identify and analyze possible solutions to quality issues raised through the company SMS process
  • Complete on a regular basis, a preliminary hazard report risk classification, and assign responsibilities as per company procedures
  • Document Control: Assist in maintaining the integrity of electronic data within the SMS
  • Assist in the management and maintenance of our documents for ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management and TCCA Safety Management System
  • Participate in the internal audit process to ensure adherence to published standards and promote an overall commitment to our safety and quality programs, including ISO 9001:2008 and TCCA SMS
  • Produce reports as required from the data collected within the SMS Pro system and analyse trends and patterns to identify, resolve and prevent future incidents.
  • Work on multiple projects related to safety and quality, particularly to address Opportunities for Improvement
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Safety




You will have the following responsibilities in order to comply with the company's Occupational Health and Safety program:
  • Working in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety acts and regulations
  • Following safe work practices and procedures and using safeguards and personal protective equipment
  • Reporting hazards (such as unsafe situations and activities) to their supervisor immediately




Education and/or Work Experience Requirements


  • University degree or technical education in a related safety or aviation field (Maintenance)
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and/or in the Aviation Safety field
  • Valid Transport Canada AME License, an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, Visio and SharePoint an asset
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance Software (AMS), an asset
  • Well organized, ability to multi task and work under tight deadlines
  • Strong communications skills
  • Positive, professional attitude, able to take initiative
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment

  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle may be required

  • Ability to obtain a “Secret Level II” security clearance with the Canadian Government and meet security requirements for the CGP and ITAR
